Google Pay is now charging fees for paying utility bills like electricity, gas, and DTH. Before, there were no extra charges. Now, you will pay a small fee if you use a credit or debit card.
No Fees for UPI Payments
UPI payments will not have any extra fees. Other apps like Paytm and PhonePe already charge these fees. Google Pay is now doing the same.
Mobile Recharges and Bill Payments
Google Pay has been charging ₹3 for mobile recharges since last year. In the future, paying bills with a credit or debit card will cost 0.5% to 1%. Some users have already seen this fee. For example, one user paid ₹15 extra for an electricity bill.
Will Everyone Pay These Fees?
It's not clear if all users will pay these fees. Experts think they will apply to everyone soon. Google Pay has not confirmed this yet. The fees will help pay for card processing. Other companies are also charging similar fees, and more might follow.
